Coleville High freshman pitcher Stephen Ybarra kept the Dayton High baseball team off balance with his off-speed stuff as Coleville went on to beat the Dust Devils 2-1 on Tuesday at the Whittell Tournament held at Governors Field.
It was a frustrating day for Dayton, which also lost to White Pine 7-5.
Ybarra went the distance in the six inning game, pitching a four-hitter. Dayton rallied against Ybarra in the sixth inning when Justin Seals singled.
Pinch runner Andy Johnson stole second and Matt Bowman singled and stole second to give Dayton runners at second and third with one out. Johnson scored on a groundout to cut Coleville's lead to 2-1, but Ybarra got another groundout to end the game.
Dayton also wasted a chance to score in the fourth when Matt Sumsion doubled and stole third with no outs, but Ybarra escaped the jam.
Coleville scored two runs in the first after two walks and a booted groundball that should have ended the inning. Nick Coffron followed with a two-run double.
Justin Shaw and Anthony Pemberton also had hits for Coleville while Ivan Trigueros added a hit for Dayton. Andrew Rice pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the Dust Devils.
White Pine rallied for three runs in the sixth for its win against Dayton. Tim Torres had two hits, Bowman had a hit and two runs and Sumsion, Casey Skog and Reese Shelton all added hits for the Dust Devils.
