A memorial service for Arthur Jason Bayer, 34, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Carson City.
Mr. Bayer died March 28, 2002, in a helicopter accident. He was born March 10, 1968, in Reno.
He attended Carson High School from 1982-86, University of Southern California from 1986-90 and continued his education at Florida Community College at Jacksonville and University of Tennessee Space Institute in pursuit of his master's degree.
He married Anne Echols on June 17, 1995, in Phoenix.
He was an honor graduate at Aviation Officer Candidate School in 1990, Primary Flight Training 1991, graduated No. 1 of 8, Intermediate Jet Flight Training in 1992, graduated No. 1 of 19 and Advanced Jet Flight Training.
He was awarded VT22 Eagle "Top Hook" Award 1992-93. He went to Atsugi, Japan, and joined VFA-195 as a junior officer in 1994. He was promoted from lieutenant (junior grade) to lieutenant in 1995. He left VFA-195 in 1997 and joined VFA 106 at Cecil Field, Fla., as a flight instructor from 1998-99. He was accepted into Test Pilot School at Patuxent River, Md., in 1999 and stationed at Naval Weapons Test Squadron China Lake in Ridgecrest, Calif., as a test pilot from 2000-2002.
He was preceded in death by his mother Merry Ann Bayer in 1999.
Among his survivors are his wife Anne; daughter Gabriella; father Art Bayer; sister Jessica and half-sister Alexis.
