Obiturary: John Giovacchini

A graveside service for John Giovacchini, 73, a Reno resident for the past year, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Smith Valley.

A fellowship gathering will be at St. John's Catholic Church in Smith Valley.

Mr. Giovacchini died April 4, 2002 in Reno. He was born Aug. 7, 1928 in Smith Valley to Ernest and Irma Giovacchini. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Roy, Charlie, Richy and Louie, and one sister, Dorlene.

Mr. Giovacchini grew up on a farm. He joined the U.S. Army in 1950 and served a tour of duty in Korea during the war.

After leaving military service, he returned to Smith Valley and his first love, farming. In 1956 he married Lora Dean Hennrich. They two owned the Wellington bar Johnny's, the Central bar and the Central Mercantile store in Smith Valley.

After moving the family to St. Louis, Mo. in 1968 he started selling real estate, which is what he did off and on for 25 years. He moved back to Nevada in 1984, and to Topaz Lake in 1985. He enjoyed wood-working, cutting fire wood, riding his four-wheeler and fishing. He spent his last year at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Reno.

Among his survivors are his son, Jay of Mesa, Ariz. and daughter Debbie Rosse, of Smith Valley; three granddaughters; brothers Ernest "Babe" Lloyd, Dave and Donny, and sisters Eda "Dolly," Elsie, Olga, Helen, Irmie, Margie and Selene.

Cremation was under the direction of Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington.
