Four hurt in two accidents

Two Carson City teenagers were injured in separate accidents Sunday.

Rick Seralta, 18, is listed in serious condition at Washoe Medical Center after an 11:25 a.m. collision at College Parkway and Lompa Lane.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Seralta, in a Kia Sportage, pulled out in front of a 1967 Jeep Wagoneer driven by Shane Kidder, 20, of Carson City.

"He just bought that from us," said Kidder's mother, Debi Balzer, who came to the scene after receiving a cell-phone call from her son.

Kidder was on his way to his mother's house when the accident occurred.

"He said (Seralta) didn't even stop," she said. "Shane just kept saying, 'I'm so sorry, mom.'"

The driver's side of the Sportage was completely caved in. Paramedics removed the conscious Seralta through the passenger side.

Kidder walked out of his vehicle.

"I think the cattle guard (bumper) saved his life," his mother said.

Both were transported to Carson-Tahoe Hospital where Kidder was treated and released. Seralta was taken by Care Flight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center.

An accident at Beverly Drive and Marian Avenue an hour later ended with a 17-year-old girl staying overnight at Carson-Tahoe Hospital.

Tiffany Hawkins was admitted to the hospital for observation after she was struck on the driver's side of her vehicle while traveling south on Marian Avenue by Maria Vera, 51, of Carson City, who was headed west on Beverly Drive.

"I can't tell you how many accidents I've heard in the 15 years I've lived on this street," said Dianne Williams who was in her Marian Avenue home when she heard the collision. "The neighbors have been asking for a four-way stop for a long time. This is just a bad intersection."
