Chirila finishes third in WCC golf

Carson High graduate John Chirila placed third to lead the Saint Mary's men's golf team to a third place finish in the West Coast Conference Championships this week at Riverbend Golf Course in Madera, Calif.


Chirila earned all-WCC first team honors with his third place finish. He posted a 1-under-par 71 in the final day Tuesday to move up from a tie for sixth place after Monday's rounds. Chirila, a sophomore, had a three-round total of 2-over 218 (74, 73, 71).


Saint Mary's finished with a score of 897, 37 strokes behind first place Pepperdine and four shots behind San Francisco.
