A memorial service for 25-year Elko resident Peter Joseph Etcheto, 85, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Methodist Church in Iuka, Kan.
Mr. Etcheto died Aug. 3, 2002, in Highland Manor in Elko. He was born May 27, 1917, in Turlock, Calif., to Joseph and Matilde Etcheto.
He graduated from Turlock High School and Modesto Junior College.
He married Grace Taylor April 16, 1944, in Pratt, Kan. She preceded him in death July 17, 1994, in Elko.
Before moving to Elko, he lived in Reno and Iuka.
Mr. Etcheto was a senior auditor with the Nevada Industrial Commission. He was a member of the Reno Basque Club, Reno Barbershop Chorus, Reno First United Methodist Church, Elko Basque Club and Elko First Presbyterian Church.
He served as a captain in the Army Air Corps and was stationed on Saipan during World War II.
Among his survivors are children Mary Jolly of Carson City, John of Reno, Peter M. of Woodbury, Conn., and Sally Porton of West Hollywood, Calif.; brother John "Buzz" of Reno; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Burns Funeral Home of Elko is in charge of arrangements.
