Like barbecued ribs? Lamb? Chicken? Like to do good things for kids?
OK, get out your checkbook and your appetite and prepare to chomp down at the Boys & Girls Club Auction of World's Greatest Barbecue on Sept. 7.
Don't go where you did last year. They've moved the barbecue to Mills Park and the feast and fun will run from 2 to 7 p.m.
Tickets are $50, but remember it's the Boys & Girls fund-raiser of the year. More fun would be to take a table for eight for $400. It's partly tax-deductible, which helps out April 15.
There's a hosted bar. Walk up and order your sasparilla and just leave a tip (sorry, not tax deductible).
"Last year we had about 700 guests, " said Lisa Taylor, resources and development director for the club. "We're hoping for 800 this year."
Among many of the auction items are complete dinners for from two to perhaps 20, a day on a yacht on Lake Tahoe. There's also - dream come true! - a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado convertible with a book price of about $14,000. For indoor sports lovers there's a Harley Davidson Limited Edition pool table. Anyone for eight ball?
Sports memorabilia from Barry Bonds and Matt Williams are up for the best bidder-wannabes. As are golf packages, overnight weekends ... well, the list goes on and on. Something for everyone to covet. The Boys & Girls Club is credited with doing much to make Carson Country kids happy and successful, said Taylor.
"Tuesday was the first day of school and the kids came rushing in to see what the place looked like after we were closed for the last week for summer cleanup."
"We've got 1,000 kids signed up for the Power Hour for after-school study," Taylor said happily.
Oh, yes. How about a dinner for eight at Adele's in Carson City? Chef Charlie Abowd promises it will make Dinner at Antoine's look like a fast-food burger. There will be a special different wine for each of the five courses.
