INCLINE VILLAGE -- A Washington state escapee was captured here early Sunday morning after leading deputies on a short, low-speed chase, sheriff's officers said.
Terrance Stuber had been wanted on a felony warrant since June 2001, when he escaped from custody in Olympia, Wash., following an arrest on assault charges. He was considered dangerous.
Washoe County sheriff's deputies said he was arrested in this north Lake Tahoe community after deputies stopped him on suspicion of drunken driving.
Stuber initially refused to follow directions and led deputies on a low-speed chase for several blocks. He turned onto a dead-end street and was subdued after a brief struggle, deputies said.
Stuber is accused of striking a deputy in the face in an effort to avoid capture. The deputy was released after treatment at an Incline Village hospital.
Stuber also was evaluated at the hospital after being struck by a Taser.
He then was booked into the county jail on charges of escape, drunken driving, eluding a police officer and battery on a police officer.
