Emily Haas scored 15 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Douglas High School girls basketball team to a 52-43 non-league victory against McQueen Tuesday night in Reno.
Haas scored eight points in the fourth quarter and the Tigers outscored the Lancers 18-13 in the period to put their win away.
Douglas High plays in the NevadaPrep.com Elite 8 Shootout starting today at Reno High School. The Tigers open with a 3 p.m. game against Forest Lake Christian (Auburn, Calif.).
Forest Lake Christian went 27-2 last season, winning 26 games in a row before falling to high-powered Modesto Christian in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Tournament semifinals. The team is 4-0 this season after taking the championship of its own Lady Falcon Classic over the weekend, capped by a 55-38 win in the finals over Newark Memorial from the Bay area.
NORTH VALLEYS 67, YERINGTON 52
Coming off a disappointing 59-58 loss to 1A Smith Valley, 3A Yerington gave 4A North Valleys all it could handle on Wednesday. Yerington stayed within eight points late in the game before North Valleys pulled away.
"It was a better performance, a better effort," Yerington coach Daron Wildermuth said.
Wes Thomas had another huge game for the Lions, scoring 23 points.
