SPARKS -- Local members of the Hells Angels motorcycle club handed out 750 turkeys to needy families.

They took part here in the 11th annual Sally Burgess Conforte Memorial Turkey Giveaway.

The tradition was started by Sally Burgess Conforte, wife of former Mustang Ranch brothel owner Joe Conforte. She died in 1992.

David Burgess, president of the motorcycle club's Nevada chapter, is a nephew of Sally Conforte.

"We don't care what people think about us. We do this because it makes us feel good," said Troy Regas, a Hell's Angels member. "That's 750 families that should eat."

Dana Orozco, 33, said she and her five children now can look forward to a holiday feast.

"I think it's great. Otherwise we wouldn't be having a Christmas dinner," she said.

Dozens of people already were in line when the giveaway began. Most of the birds were gone in less than an hour.
