The 2002 fishing season opens on Saturday at the Fort Churchill Cooling Ponds, which are located near Wabuska. The ponds will be open to fishing until Sept. 30.
Drive east on U.S. 50 to Silver Springs. Take Alt. U.S. 95 south toward Yerington. One mile past Wabuska will be Sierra Way, a paved road on your left. Take Sierra Way east to the cooling ponds, which are owned by Sierra Pacific Power Co.
You can only fish from the shoreline.
Your best bet will be to catch black (largemouth) bass. For the bass, use anything made of plastic, such as worms or jigs.
For best results, cast parallel to the shoreline in the areas where there is a rocky shoreline.
Largemouth bass, channel catfish, crappie and bluegills.
You must have a Nevada fishing license.
The limit is 15 game fish, of which not more than 2 may be black bass.
Minimum size for the black bass is 14 inches.
Fishing is prohibited from the center dike and posted areas.
Wading or the use of boats or other floating devices is prohibited.
