A funeral for James Andrew Standingbear, 17, a Fallon resident for the past 10 years, will be at 11 a.m. at the Tribal Gymnasium in Stillwater.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Smith Valley Funeral Home and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Tribal Gym.
Mr. Standingbear died Feb. 6, 2002, at Tahoe Pacific Hospital in Sparks. He was born Oct. 1, 1984, in Carson City, to Andrea (Jack) Ripley and David Standingbear.
Before moving to Fallon, he lived in Carson City.
He was a junior at Churchill County High School where he was a member of the golf team. He was a U.S. National Award winner in U.S. History and Government and an honorary member of Phi Theta Kappa at Western Nevada Community College.
He was a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe in Fort Washakie, Wyo. and a descendent of the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe in Fallon.
He was preceded in death by his sister Shaylena Standingbear, maternal grandfather Andrew Jack and paternal grandparents Luke and Mary Smith.
Among his survivors are his mother Andrea Ripley of Fallon; father David Standingbear of Wadsworth; brother Daniel Ripley of Lynnwood, Calif.; maternal grandmother Lillian Moose of Schurz and numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at the Stillwater Indian Cemetery.
