A two-hour search was called off Thursday night after two people eluded sheriff's deputies in the hills above Carson City despite the use of a helicopter.

A man and a woman were being sought in the vicinity of C Hill after they drove away from Carson City Sheriff's deputies during a pursuit Thursday along Curry Street and west into the foothills.

Asked for assistance by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, two Carson City detectives had just begun surveillance around 3 p.m. of a South Carson Street motel room when they saw a man matching the suspects description and an unidentified female leave the parking lot in a 1994 Ford S10 pickup.

"The suspects were followed by detectives and at some point picked up the pace and started trying to elude the officers," said Chief Deputy Scott Burau.

Officers followed the vehicle, described as speeding down Curry Street and "blowing stop signs," to the rear of the Railroad Museum.

The truck then turned left onto the dirt road there and headed up the back side of C Hill.

For about an hour, officers scouting the area reported by radio the location of the truck who could be seen running up and down the hill in various locations.

Raven, a police helicopter, was called in and arrived on scene at about 4:20 p.m.

After several passes over C Hill the vehicle was found abandoned on top and the two individuals could be seen among the rocks on the north slope.

At 5:30 the search was called off because of darkness, Burau said.

The individual, Christopher Kelly, is a suspect in a felony fraud investigation out of Washoe County. There are two misdemeanor warrants for traffic violations against Kelly as well.
