Scout needs help with Eagle project

From the time he was a Tiger Cub, R.H. Campbell had his eye set on getting his Eagle Scout award.

Now, he's hoping for a little help from the community to help him complete his goal.

R.H., 15, needs around 50 volunteers to help him -- and his Boy Scout-supportive family -- pick up trash on the Moffat Property, Carson City's first protected piece of open space. R.H. said he hopes volunteers will come help clean Saturday starting at 8 a.m. R.H. said he will provide lunch, cleaning materials and other refreshments. He asks that people bring work gloves, water and sun screen.

The property, located northeast of the Edmonds Drive and Fifth Street intersection, offers great views of Carson City, Campbell said. Unfortunately, the property also has a lot of litter and graffiti on rocks on the 17-acre property. While the property isn't littered to the point that it's an eyesore, R.H. said his project will make it more usable and help the community.

"We're just going to make it a lot better," he said.

R.H.'s mother, Lori, said her family, husband Rich and son, Kyle, 12, will be on hand to support him through "his last thing."

"We want community support," she said. "Getting a lot of people out there will be his hardest chore."

R.H. said he enjoys scouting, which keeps him busy. Busy enough to earn 31 merit badges, 10 more than what's required.
