Two vehicle fires set in south Carson City since Monday afternoon were deliberate, according to Capt. Phil Hernandez of the Carson City Fire Department.
The first fire destroyed an older travel trailer, built around 1961, at about 4:38 p.m. Monday. Another fire, at 3 a.m. Tuesday, destroyed a 1976 Jeep Cherokee. Both sat in a vacant lot just east of Highway 395 and north of Clear Creek Road, according to Hernandez.
"The interior of the car was destroyed, so we can't actually say where the fire started," Hernandez said. "But the trailer fire started in the rear of the trailer and was man-caused."
Carson City resident Linda Lippincott said she saw a truck drop the trailer off almost two weeks ago. The Jeep appeared a little later.
"The trailer looked like it was abandoned," she said. "The windows were broken out, and it would have been easy for someone to get in and start a fire. I called the Sheriff's Department, but nothing was done."
No injuries were reported in either incident. Due in part to the age of these vehicles, there is no damage estimate and according to Hernandez, officials are trying to determine who owns them.
The vehicles may have been parked on the lot illegally, according to local officials.
The information has been turned over to the Carson City Sheriff's Department.
