Carson City Sheriff's investigators are looking for Ceasar Munoz, 24, a Lyon County resident and local gang member known as "Thumper."
Munoz is allegedly responsible for a drive-by shooting on Saliman Road near Robinson Street about 12:30 a.m. Saturday said Scott Burau, spokesman for the Carson City Sheriff's Department.
One victim is alleged to have been wounded in the hand but refused medical help.
"This is certainly a gang-related shooting," Burau said. "Munoz is a local gang member and at least one of the men in the victim's car is a documented gang member from a different gang. At this point, we don't know what led up to the altercations and any speculation would be premature, but the investigation is ongoing."
Burau said two vehicles, one carrying Munoz and an unidentified male passenger and the other carrying Salvador Maldonado, 22, and Jose Escobar, 21, were traveling east on Highway 50 near Mills Park.
Burau said the suspect vehicle, a brown 1988 Ford Bronco, allegedly flashed gang signs at the victims. There was a verbal exchange and the victims turned south on Saliman Road. Munoz and the other passenger pulled up to Maldonado's vehicle and someone inside fired using a semi-automatic hand gun, Burau said.
"The victim's vehicle was fired on several times and the suspect was positively identified as Ceasar Munoz," he said.
Maldonado and Escobar drove home after the incident and notified authorities.
Munoz is being sought for the investigation of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm in an occupied vehicle.
He is 6 feet tall and weighs 260 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has a history of arrests in Carson City since 1994, including narcotics, traffic violations and probation violations.
According to Burau, investigators spent the night looking for Munoz and to that end, served a search warrant at 107 Red Rock Road in Dayton, the home of Munoz' sister, Saturday.
"During a search of the residence, we recovered a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition," Burau said. "The suspect's vehicle was parked nearby. We seized the vehicle and hold a $100,000 warrant for his arrest."
Anyone with information concerning Munoz' whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at 887-2008 on weekends. During business hours, detectives can be contacted at 887-2020, ext. 1400.
