Several Carson City players helped lead the Reno Rockets to a second place finish in the Amateur Softball Association Nevada State Championships in the 12 and under B division.
The Rockets went 5-2 in the event held recently at Shadow Mountain in Sparks. Samantha Puzey, Lacey Gascon, Kayla Sanchez and Candice Rutledge all of Carson City played key roles for the Rockets.
The Rockets beat the Carson Sharks 8-1 and the Reno Dynamite 10-6 before losing to the USA Chicks of Sparks 15-2. The Rockets came back to beat the Fallon Scorpions 9-6, the Dynamite 10-9 and the Las Vegas Virus 9-7 to advance to the championship round. The Rockets lost to the Chicks 13-10 in the finals.
Puzey pitched in all seven games and finished with a 5-1 record. She also had six hits, including two doubles and two triples.
Gascon hit .522 (12-for-23) and had two doubles and two triples, Sanchez hit .421 (8-for-19) with 10 runs and seven stolen bases and Rutledge went 6-for-19.
