4 Paws 4-H Dog Club, All Breed Fun Match/Show n' Go

Pooches of every size, shape and description were struttin' their stuff at the first annual All Breed Fun Match at Fuji Park on Saturday.

"It's really fun," said Denali Ceragoli of Markleeville.

A member of the Happy Heelers 4-H Club in Douglas County, Ceragoli won "Best of Puppy" with her 9-week-old Australian shepherd, Quigley, on Saturday morning and was participating in a number of events in the afternoon, primarily with her club leader's older dogs.

She said she enjoys working with her animals in competition, except when they go to the bathroom while in the ring.

Lauren Chen, a 12-year-old from Reno, took the "Best Adult Dog" title with her Whippet, Katy.

"I trained her and it's all paid off," she said.

A member of Reno's Diggin' Dogs 4-H Club in Reno, she takes this very seriously and wants to show dogs professionally some day.

Organized by Carson City's 4 Paws 4-H Dog Club, the match gives locals and 4-H members a chance to gear up for spring and summer dog shows. Offering everything from conformation to agility and obedience, the event drew about 50 dogs, according to Fun Match organizer Sue Dunt.

She said adult leaders as well as "citizen dog buffs" judge the events, accompanied by teen 4-H leaders who are learning how to judge.

Entries cost between $3 to $10, depending on the event and proceeds benefit the 4 Paws 4-H Club.
