Police said Wednesday a car matching the suspect vehicle in Monday's attempted abduction may have been spotted near another school the same day.
"They saw a similarly described vehicle in the area of Fremont School on the same day and around the same time that caused suspicions," said Scott Burau, chief deputy of the Carson City Sheriff's Department.
Burau said officers continue stepped-up patrols of Carson City Schools after a 9-year-old boy reported a man tried to coerce him into a car on Cortez Street near Seeliger Elementary at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Burau said the family was reluctant to mention their suspicions until they saw news reports of the Monday incident.
"Because of the information in the press, they called us," he said. "We want people to do that. We need everyone's ears and eyes out there."
Detectives scheduled an interview with the family for Wednesday evening.
"We'll see what we new information we can glean from this," he said.
"The sheriff's office will continue to have a stepped-up presence in the school district until the investigation is complete."
The suspect vehicle is described as a small gold compact car driven by a white male adult in his 20s wearing a yellow or orange shirt and hat, with a moustache.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Carson City Sheriff's Department at 887-2020, ext. 1400.
