The Dayton High girls and Fernley boys won the team titles at the Lyon County track championships on Wednesday at Yerington.
Dayton's girls won with 98 points to edge second place Fernley, which finished with 90 points. The boys meet was also as tight as can be as Fernley edged Dayton 82-81.
Among the highlights in the meet was an outstanding effort in the boys pole vault by Dayton's Shaun Merrill, who won the event with a leap of 14 feet even.
Another outstanding event was the boys long jump in when Yerington's Randy Shumate edged Fernley's Tigger McIntyre. Shumate won with a jump of 21-4 while McIntyre placed second at 21-1. Other winners in the meet were:
