A funeral service for John H. White, 85, a lifelong Carson Valley resident, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville.

Mr. White died April 30, 2002, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born March 21, 1917, in Oakland, Calif., to Colin Campbell White and Sophie Marie Gansberg White. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, in 1992; brothers James, as a child, and William in 1975; sister Grace Suder, and his parents.

He married Wanda on Aug. 27, 1950.

He attended Alpine and Douglas County schools, graduating from Douglas County High School in 1935.

After graduation, he was a cowboy for the Dangberg ranches in Minden. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of chief petty officer. After returning from the Navy, he operated the family dairy farm.

He served as president of the Windmill Dairy Cooperative in Minden, was a member of the D.F.A. of America, was a 4-H leader for many years and was a member of the State Board of Agriculture. He was also a member of the 20-30 Club and the Soil Conservation District, Alpine Land and Reservoir and the Nevada Farm Bureau. Mr. White also served in a variety of capacities in the Nevada Holstein Association, taking special interest in the breeding of registered Holstein dairy cattle during his lifetime.

Among his survivors are his daughters, Lynda Howerton of Carson City, Judy Sheldrew and Robbin Pedrett, both of Gardnerville and a son, Steven, also of Gardnerville, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Interment will be at Mottsville Cemetery.
