A funeral for Dennis Albert John, 54, a Woodfords resident for the past 10 years, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.
A viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at FitzHenry's
He died Nov. 13, 2002, at Washoe Medical Center. He was born Aug. 26, 1948, in Schurz, to Albert and Madelaine Wade John. He was a native of the Carson Valley and spent 24 years in Shiprock, N.M., before returning to Woodfords.
He graduated from Douglas High School in 1967 and Haskell Institute in 1969.
He worked as a professional mechanic for 20 years and for 10 years was self-employed as an auto salvager. He was a member of the Woodfords Washoe Community Council, WIEC Parent Committee, Washoe Tribal Council and Washoe Development Enterprises. He enjoyed working with children and encouraging them to continue their educations, fishing and collecting classic cars.
He served as an officer in the Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by brothers Frankie and Clayton John.
Among his survivors are his parents of Woodfords; brothers Michael, Darrell, Clinton Eric and Aldon, sisters Camill Ann John, Pauline John and Karen Mortimer and loving companion Carolyn McLaughlin, all of Woodfords; Vera Johnson, mother of his children Carmella Denise John, Michelle John and Cheryl Lynn John, all of Shiprock; daughter Brianna; and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at the Woodfords Cemetery.
FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
