120 YEARS AGO
Alf Chartz did not receive news of his murder pardon from the State Prison until half past 5 o'clock. A carriage drove up containing Chartz' sister, Russell, the missing witness and Mr. McEwen. He sprang about two feet in the air, and his sister fainted. (Four years in confinement, studying, including shorthand. This was the result of a gun battle at Eureka, in which even the victim said he was not at fault.)
100 YEARS AGO
Yesterday at the Indian school, Mrs. S.P. Davis, Mrs. A. Jacobs and Mrs. Cannon, the latter the inspector of the Relief Corps, were thrown from a carriage and shaken up pretty well. The horses took fright at a number of pack animals being led by Indians.
70 YEARS AGO
Leon Indart, proprietor of the Capitol Club in this city, left for San Francisco for an operation on his arm which he injured about a year ago in a car accident.

Editorial says Carson City is fortunate to have a number of fine service clubs; Lions, Rotary, Exchange, Business and Professional Women and 20-30. "Lions have just finished their 20th anniversary, and they can look back to decades of real community service."

Winning a regional football title was tough enough. The Reno-Carson Gamblers now have the problem of raising enough money for a trip to the nationals in Texas. Gamblers were Victory Club in league play.

The Carson City Convention and Visitors' Bureau has been asked to fund a regional Hot August Nights, Kit Carson Trail and the second annual Founders Day, says Executive Director Candace Duncan.
