Woman receives probation in child porn case

A Carson City woman, convicted of having a young girl "flash" an Internet camera by lifting her dress, received probation Monday.

Jill Fletcher told authorities she was in a online chat room at the time doing investigative work on child pornography.

The incident cost her her job as a substitute teacher and resulted in child pornography charges against her. In addition, her children were taken away from her.

Carson City District Judge Mike Griffin ordered a 12- to 36-month sentence, but suspended it and put her on probation. He said he first thought her conduct was appalling, but has since found there are extenuating circumstances that led him to put her on probation.

Fletcher is attending weekly counseling sessions and will join a parenting class in January. Three of her children are with her mother and two with her father.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Anne Langer said Fletcher has some deep-seated psychological problems. She said Fletcher's husband is in prison, serving 10 years to life for lewdness with a minor. The District Attorney's Office is investigating whether Fletcher was being stalked on the Internet.

Langer said Fletcher's progress will be evaluated in a future court hearing.
