While Luxchmi Gill and the Galena High girls golf team finished what they started, Carson High's Ciarra Christian did what she had to do to qualify for the NIAA/U.S. Bank State Championships.
Galena won the zone title at the Northern 4A Tournament on Wednesday at Sierra Sage. The Grizzlies finished with a two-round total of 913 to easily outdistance South Tahoe, which finished second with a 956. Galena fired a 467 on Wednesday while South Tahoe shot a 468.
Spanish Springs earned the final qualifying spot to state by shooting a 477 to place third with a 963. Luxchmi Gill fired two rounds of 75 to finish with a 150 to win the individual title.
Christian fired an 89 on Wednesday to finish with a two-day total of 180 to place eighth overall. More importantly, Christian finished fifth among golfers who were not on teams who qualified for state. The top five golfers from non-qualifying teams qualified for state.
Also for Carson, Elizabeth Rankl had a solid round of 99 to finish with a 201, Lindsay Farnworth fired a 105 to finish with a 215 and Amanda Carvin fired a 103 to finish with a 218.
Douglas placed eighth in the tournament after firing a 520 on Wednesday. Keriann Zink shot a 100 to finish with a 194, Cassie Sorich shot a 111 to finish with a 229, Ashley Hartley fired a 98 to finish with a 214, Tasha McCann shot a 119 to finish with a 227, Julie Gingrich fired a 111 to finish with a 215 and Kristina Colyer shot a 100 to finish with a 204 for Douglas.
The state tournament will be held this Tuesday and Wednesday at Thunder Canyon Country Club.
