Galena High's Luxchmi Gill became the NIAA/U.S. Bank State champion in girls golf on Wednesday.
Meanwhile the Galena girls finished second in the team event and Carson High's Ciarra Christian went on to finish 24th in the state event that concluded on Wednesday at Thunder Canyon Country Club.
Gill shot a 5-over-par 77 on Wednesday to finish with a two-round total of 150. She easily outdistanced Durango's Sondia Gogue, who finished second after a two-round total of 160 (78-82).
The Grizzlies finished with a two-day total of 942 after finishing with a 475 on Wednesday. Green Valley won the state title with a two-day total of 872 (434-438). Bishop Gorman took third with a 952 (483-469).
Christian shot a 98 on Wednesday to follow-up her 91 on Tuesday to finish with a 189. Galena's Michele Bick took 21st after firing a 96 on Wednesday to finish with a 187.
Also for Galena, Caitlin Mullins finished with a 199 (98-101), Nicole Pastrell finished with a 199 (97-102), Kristin Weland finished with a 207 (108-99) and Kalli Mannos finished with a 224 (115-109).
3A GOLF
Yerington's Chelsea Arrighi was tied for third place after the first round of the state 3A girls golf championships at the par-73, 5,516-yard course in Pahrump.
Arrighi shot a 93 after firing a 45 on the front nine and a 48 on the back nine. Arrighi trails Lowry's Mackenzie Swecker (81), Pahrump's Renate Barten (85) and is tied with North Tahoe's Jenna Harlow.
Fernley's Sherellyn Purcell stood in 15th after firing a 103. Also competing for Fernley is Lindsey Craig, who fired a 120.
