No phone registration at college

Students attempting to register for classes at Western Nevada Community College by telephone need not check the number and dial again. It's out of order.

"The system-wide equipment is old," said Connie Capurro, interim vice president of academic and student affairs. "We were hoping to make it through another registration period or two, but no such luck."

The phone system crashed last week, leaving the Internet as the students' only option for registration.

But Capurro said it will not be a huge adjustment.

Records show that 76.5 percent of students registering for fall classes used only Internet registration and 18.1 percent used only the telephone. About 5 percent used both the Web and telephone registration.

"Luckily, our students have been moving toward complete Web registration with ease," she said. "They've learned that the most up-to-date class schedule can be found there. The process is very simple."

Staff members are available at all campuses and teaching centers to help students become familiar with online registration and computers with Internet access are are set up at all locations.

Students can access Web registration from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 6 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

The telephone registration crash also affected Great Basin College in Elko and could affect all colleges and universities on the state system.

How to use WNCC Web-Reg:

1. Go to www.wncc.nevada.edu/studentservices

2. Click on "Web Registration"

3. Click on "On-Line Registration" Enter Social Security or student ID number.

4. Click on "Submit" Enter personal identification number

5. Click on "Submit"

6. Select from the main menu and follow prompts. Click on choice of --
