The Carson boys and girls cross country teams had an impressive effort in sweeping a three-way meet on Wednesday with Elko and Douglas.
Carson also swept the individual titles as Shanna Sparks won the girls race and Josh Corder won the boys race in the meet hosted by Douglas. Carson won the boys meet 30-44 over Elko. Douglas placed third (53).
In the girls meet, Carson finished with 26 points and was followed by Douglas (51) and Elko (72)
"For the most part, all of our kids did a good job," Carson coach Todd Ackerman said.
In the girls race, Sparks covered the 3.6-mile course in 20 minutes, 50 seconds. Annie Brinson also had an impressive effort as she finished fourth in a photo finish, just behind Douglas High's Taryn Mendive, who placed third. Both runners finished in 22:54. "It was a click of a finger apart," Ackerman said.
Douglas High's Monica Buccambuso placed fifth. Carson swept the sixth through 13th places:
Sheena Bonaldi (23:15), Janine Stone (24:30), Amanda Benson (25:19), Tiffany Halen (25:31), Kristin Needenreip (26:04), Patty Capistrant (26:36), Terah Laack (27:07) and Samantha Pitts (27:28).
For Douglas, Amber Cornelius placed 15th (27:54) and Hillary Brower took 16th (27:56).
For the boys, Corder, who is recovering from an illness, won in 19:53.
"Josh is starting to feel a little better," Ackerman said. "That's good for us and that's good for the boys team."
Also for Carson, Andrew Pederson placed second (20:01), Ryan Turner took seventh (21:31), Jason Strull placed eighth (21:34), Doug Holderman took 12th (22:04), Shelby Moulden took 14th (22:15), Anthony Stewart placed 15th (22:32) and Sam Saunders took 16th (22:33).
For Douglas, Daniel Sipko took sixth (21:02), Greg Mullin placed ninth (21:37), Tyler Hines placed 10th (21:50) and Elliott McPeek took 11th (21:51).
