Two women were transported by helicopter to Washoe Medical Center Saturday evening after a collision in front of the Brewery Arts Center at the intersection of Division and King streets. The drivers of the vehicles were the only people involved.

According to Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Bob Guimont on the scene, a white Dodge Durango traveling west on King Street failed to stop at the intersection of Division Street, striking a new blue Jeep Liberty headed north. The Jeep was knocked west, hitting a cottonwood tree along King Street while the Dodge was knocked north on Division.

"No breaks were utilized at all at any time," Guimont said.

Carson City Firefighters on the scene used power tools to open the passenger side door of the Jeep in order to extricate the driver. The air bags in the Dodge deployed but those in the Jeep did not.

Because one of the deputies who responded to the scene discovered that his wife was involved in the accident, the Nevada Highway Patrol was called to assist.

"We just want to make sure everything is above board," Guimont said.

The names of the drivers were not released.

Guimont said the woman in the Dodge admitted to running the stop sign, and that she would be cited.

A "squad" truck from the Carson City Fire Department was called directly from a house fire on Rawhide Way to assist.
