Carson school choirs plan performances for holiday season

Choirs from Carson High and Middle schools are planning performances for the holiday season.

The Carson High School Choir will take diners back in time next week with a series of medieval dinners and shows. The Red Hot Bell Pepper handbell choir will join with the Singing Salons of Carson Middle School for a concert this month.

The high school's concert and show choirs hosted the Medieval Dinner last year for the first time to raise money for a trip to France. They performed at World War II battlefields in Normandy and Omaha Beach, and the Luxembourg Gardens area and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

"It was amazing," said Richel Zifranovich, choir historian. "All the history and everything was great. We got to sing, and we had the best tour guides ever."

The Medieval Dinner played a large role in raising the funds for the trip.

"It helped us out tremendously," Zifranovich said.

Because of the success, students decided to host the dinner and show again.

"It was such a great hit last year," Zifranovich explained. "We sold out, and a lot of people wanted another night."

Entertainment will include Celtic music, a royal court, wizards, jesters, jugglers, bagpipes and performances by the choir.

"It's real fun," Zifranovich said. "Everyone's in costume. You get to have a good meal and be entertained at the same time."

The middle school will hold its annual Winter Holiday Concert on Dec. 15 in the school's gymnasium.

This year's concert is dedicated to all of the performers' families and friends serving in the military.

Handbells and singers will open and close with special arrangements of "The Star-Spangled Banner and "Let There Be Peace On Earth."
