A memorial service for Casper W. "Cap" Bilyeu, 87, a Carson City resident for the past 42 years, will be at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 304 N. Division St.
Mr. Bilyeu died Feb. 20, 2003, at his home following a brief illness. He was born at Yost Lake near Stillwater in Payne County, Okla., to Lee Isaac "Dock" and Julia Alfreeda Ham Bilyeu.
He graduated from Stillwater High School and attended Oklahoma A&M College. He began his career in lumber and hardware retailing in Stillwater, and later managed lumberyards in Tucumcari and Santa Fe, N.M.; Buhl and Gooding, Idaho; and Carson City.
Mr. Bilyeu managed J. W. Copeland Yards in Carson City from 1961 until 1964, and worked at C. Meek Lumber in Carson City from 1965, until his retirement in 1980.
During his career, he was active in church activities and Boy Scouts of
America, was on the board of directors of the Carson City Chamber of
Commerce, and was a past president of the Rotary Club of Carson City. In
1978, he was named Man of the Year by the Carson City Chamber of
Commerce.
Among his survivors are his wife of 62 years, Grace Hogan Bilyeu of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sally Bilyeu of Carson City; grandsons Ricky Bilyeu of Carson City and Cameron Green of Reno; and sisters Alta Kirby and Olive Pryor of Stillwater and Joan Botts of Perkins, Okla.
