A beautiful baby boy arrived a little later than Mom expected -- but in time to be the area's New Year's baby at 1:29 a.m. Wednesday.

Ian Breckenridge, the healthy son of Gina Crooks-Breckenridge and Cory Breckenridge, weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces at Carson-Tahoe Hospital and was delivered by Caesarean section.

He seemed content, peaceful and unaware of his celebrity status as a media circus visited his parents.

"I think it's a blessing," Crooks-Brekenridge said. "It's a good way to start off the new year."

She checked in to the hospital about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Doctors decided to perform the surgery after monitors showed the baby's heart rate dropping. Ian was born with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, but is now fine, his mom reported.

"They acted fast and got him out before there were any problems," Crooks-Brekenridge said.

She was thankful to the nurses and doctors. "It's a great staff. They're wonderful. I want to make sure to say thanks to staff."

Ian joins his 2-year-old brother, Evan. Crooks-Brekenridge said she hopes to take time to "enjoy her family" before returning to work as a chemical-dependency specialist in Carson City.
