For those who thought they saw some fireworks Friday night, the real deal takes place at Reno-Fernley Raceway tonight when the second annual Top Gun Celebrity Race is held to benefit the Brian Sweeney Fund.
Media stars from radio, television and newspapers will be competing along with two pilots from the Top Gun School at Fallon Naval Air Station. The celebrities will be driving Hobby Stock cars, donated for the evening by a dozen brave Hobby Stock owners and drivers.
The event is made possible by Reno-Fernley Raceway, Michael Hohl Motors, Port of Subs, Racer Wholesale, Suzy Q's Stain Busters and Jose's Shirts. The racing celebrities will visit the stands to sign the special autographed program, along with newly crowned Miss Nevada, Carson City's Christina O'Neil. Christina will sing the National Anthem before the racing begins and will also join her court to sign autographs.
General admission is $10, with $2 from each ticket going directly to the Brian Sweeney Fund. Seniors are $5, with kids 6-12 $2 and kids five and under free. Spectator gates open at 3 p.m. and racing starts at 6.
