Air Force coach and former UNLV standout Reed Peters has been hired as Feather River Community College's new baseball coach.
Peters replaces Jedd Soto, who accepted the job at St. Mary's.
"The applicants for this job were outstanding," Feather River athletic director Paul Thein said. "Peters is a great person and coach with outstanding abilities.
Peters was named as the Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 at Air Force.
Peters began his coaching career at UNLV where he served as assistant from 1990-94. He then became the head coach at Colby Community College Kansas where he posted a 123-80 record in four seasons.
During his tenure there, Peters led Colby to its only regional championship in school history, to a sub-region runner-up finish and a region conference runner-up finish.
At Air Force, Peters guided the Falcons to their best record and most wins in five years. In 2001, Air Force posted a school record 19 Division I wins. Petes led the Falcons to 28 conference wins, the most by any coach in a three-year span in school history. He guided Air Force to a 17-5 home record in 2002.
Peters was a standout center fielder for UNLV from 1985-87. He earned all-Big West honors in 1986 and 1987 and led the Big West with 18 home runs in 1987. He was also a two-time academic All-American choice.
While at Feather River, Soto led the Golden Eagles to the state playoffs for the past four seasons, to Golden Valley Conference titles the past two seasons and to the State Final Four this past season.
"Soto has done an excellent job for Feather River and I feel a championship can be won here," Peters said. "I've coached or played at all levels and wanted to come back to the West Coast, to a quality community college. I am excited about the opportunity at Feather River College."
