Aaron Heberger of the Carson rodeo club fell down going to his calf which hurt his effort during the National High School Rodeo Finals on Thursday in Farmington, N.M.
Heberger, of Washoe Valley, drew a good calf, but fell down going to his calf in calf roping. He was still able to post a time of 17.989 seconds. He was 11th in the performance and sat in 12th in the average at 30.086.
Overall it was a strong night for Nevada on Thursday. Fallon's Tyson Torvik also drew a good calf and posted a 10.513, fourth in the performance. He's sitting fifth in the second go-round and third in the average at 22.494.
A.J. Duncan of Lovelock is still sitting 15th in the second round and 13th in the average with a 30.302.
In other events, Kameron Kennedy of Las Vegas scored a 57 in bareback riding for eighth in the performance. He's 15th in the second go-round and 12th in the average with a 117.
Sterling Ward of Las Vegas scored a 68 on his tough horse. He was second in the performance, sat in second in the second go round and was 20th in the average with a 68.
In breakaway roping, Fallon's Annie Joanette turned in another good time of 3.144, drawing a good calf. Joanette was third in the performance, third in the second go-round and was leading the average with a 6.681.
In bull riding, Lincoln's Beau Carlson had to withdraw due to a broken wrist.
In team roping, Alamo's Chad and Tony Steele missed their second steer.
Elko's Matt Barton is in 20th after the second go-round and 10th in the average in boys cutting with a 427.5.
Kristen Brown of Las Vegas is holding on to 20th in the average with a 43.436 in pole bending.
Haylee Turley of Las Vegas is still fifth in the second go-round of goat tying with a 8.979 and 18th in the average at 24.459.
