A memorial service for Eugene John Hansen, 81, a Carson City resident for the past nine years, will be at 2 p.m. June 14 at the Moran Building in Virginia City.
Mr. Hansen died May 31, 2003, in Carson City. He was born March 8, 1922, in Salt Lake City to John and Mary Affleck Hansen.
Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Jackpot.
He was raised in Las Vegas. He worked at the Las Vegas Review Journal at the age of 12 until he was inducted into the military.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Lamson.
Mr. Hansen owned and operated the Palace Club in Hawthorne. He was a truck driver for Ringsby Trucking Co. in Hawthorne and Reno and worked as an operating engineer in the construction industry.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Hawthorne and the Operating Engineers. He was a past member of the Teamsters union and a former Humbug of Julia C. Bulette Chapter of E Clampus Vitus. He was instrumental in the restoration of the Moran Building.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean in 1994; daughter Julia Hansen in 2000; sister Margaret Jamison; granddaughter Tammy Hansen in 1968; and grandson Justin Hansen.
Among his survivors are his sons Gary of Reno and Terry of Hawthorne; daughter Mary Waller of Fallon; sisters Edna Pearce of California and Catherine Belmain of Commerce City, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.
