The Carson Sharks 12 and under softball team came back from the losers bracket to recently win the Susanville Summer Slam.
After losing to the Reno Predators 9-8, the Sharks won five games to take the title. The Sharks came back to beat the Predators twice, 4-2 and 16-9 for the title.
Cassie Vondrak was the winning pitcher in both games. In the 4-2 win, she struck out 14 and walked just one. Taylor Kerr was 2-for-4 with a triple, Allysia Owens tripled and Thera Frank was 1-for-2 with a double.
In the 16-9 win, Emily Tobias went 5-for-5 with a triple and a double. Frank, Katie McEwan and Tami Conn all had two hits and Kerr went 3-for-5 with a triple and a double. Vondrak struck out six in picking up the win.
After losing to the Predators, the Sharks beat Reno Fast Pitch 8-6. Vondrak struck out seven in the four-inning game for the win. Vondrak and Frank were each also 2-for-2.
The Sharks then beat Lassen 16-9. Owens was the winning pitcher while Frank went 3-for-3 with a double and Kerr went 2-for-3.
The Sharks followed with a 10-3 win over the Winnemucca Gold Rush. Vondrak was the winning pitcher, Kerr was 2-for-4 with a double, Tobias went 2-for-4 with a triple, Conn was 3-for-4 and Krista Mattice went 2-for-4.
For the tournament, Vondrak went 4-1, with 33 strikeouts over 29 innings. Frank hit .625 with three doubles, Kerr hit .476 with two triples and a double and caught all six games, Tobias hit .500 with a triple and a double and Conn hit .529.
The Sharks also played outstanding defense with Hannall Shaw, Owens, Frank and Conn helping to lead the effort. The Sharks are 14-3-1 in three tournaments, finishing second in their other two events.
