Costella qualifies 12th in 400 I.M.

Costella finished the 400 I.M. in five minutes, 2.08 seconds to qualify 12th. She swam faster than last year when she qualified for the championship final.


Swimmers on this year's World Championship team are competing at Santa Clara to prepare for the World Championships. In the consolation finals, Costella finished in 5:02.73.


Justin Barber finished the 100 butterfly in 1:02.24. "That's a good, solid swim for him right now," Tigershark coach Jim Puleo said.


Barber also finished in 4:16.45 and Ryan Costella finished in 4:22.67 in the 400 freestyle for the Tigersharks.


In the 200 free, Julie Hardt qualified 20th in 2:06.21. Right behind in 21st was Kate Hardt, who finished in 2:06.26. Tara Theilemann finished in 2:12.90 for the Tigersharks.


The Hardts both helped Reno to an excellent finish in the 400 free relay as Reno placed eighth in 3:58.02. Kate also helped Reno to an outstanding finish in the 800 free relay as Reno took seventh in 8:38.63.


The Hardts also had solid finishes in the 100 free. Kate placed 27th in 58.92 and Julie took 39th in 59.43. In the 400 free, Julie placed 23rd in 4:24.52 and Kate took 32nd in 4:27.46.


Today in the final day of the meet for the Tigersharks, Lauren Costella will swim in the 200 fly, 200 I.M. and 800 free, Barber will swim in the 200 I.M. and 1,500 free, Theilemann will compete in the 50 free and 200 backstroke and Ryan Costella will swim in the 1,500 free.
