Dayton softball settles for tie

The Dayton High softball team kept coming back against Spanish Springs before running out of time on Wednesday.


Dayton settled for a 7-7 tie after 10 innings in a game that was called due to darkness. The Dust Devils (10-2-1) trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning when they scored three runs to tie the game.


Natalie Malekos singled and scored on Rachel Hurt's triple. Hurt also scored on an error on the play. Lacy Taylor followed with a single, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. She scored on Kaitlin McKinnon's groundball.


After Spanish Springs scored to take a 4-3 lead in the eighth, Dayton answered in the bottom of the eighth. Keeli Garcia scored on an error on a sacrifice bunt by Malekos.


Spanish Springs took a 6-4 lead in the ninth, but Dayton answered again. After a walk by McKinnon and a bunt single by Amanda Sbragia loaded the bases, Garcia followed with a two-run hit.


Spanish Springs took a 7-6 lead in the 10th, but Dayton tied it when Hurt scored on a sacrifice fly by Jessie Ayres.


Sbragia had two hits, Taylor, Malekos and Ayres all added a hit and a run, Hurt scored two runs and Garcia added a hit. Nicole Greer went the distance for Dayton, allowing four earned runs while striking out eight.
