The Dayton High boys track team won an open invitational held on Wednesday at Yerington.
Dayton was able to edge out Yerington for the team title with 137 points. The Lions took second with 131. Other schools to compete were Smith Valley, Incline, Fernley, Silver Springs and Mineral County.
In the girls meet, Dayton placed second with 127.5 points. Incline won with 197.
Yerington's Wes Thomas had an excellent meet, winning four events. Thomas won the triple jump with a strong effort of 42 feet, 4 inches, the 200 meter dash (23.62 seconds), the 400 (53.39).
Thomas also helped Yerington win the 1,600 relay in 3:45.28. He was joined by Kyle Myers, Tommy Menesini and Randy Shumate.
For Dayton, Dylan Morris won the high jump and Jose Barajas won the 3,200. Dayton also won the 3,200 relay in 9:11.27.
Other top local finishers for Yerington included Lucas Mudloff, who won the shot pot and Mark Lemos, who won the discus.
Smith Valley's Kevin Savidge edged Yerington's Randy Shumate in the 100 and long jump. Both posted strong times in the 100 as Savidge won in 11.35 while Shumate took second in 11.59. Savidge won the long jump at 20-3. Shumate, who won the long jump at the Fallon Elks Invitational, placed second at 20-2.
In addition, Yerington's Brenton Espinoza, Brian Murillo, Menesini and Kyle Myers won the 800 relay in 1:42.02.
In the girls meet, Dayton's Bridgette Galles was a double winner, winning the high jump (5-1) and the 300 hurdles (51.86).
Nancy Sandoval won the 100 low hurdles and Melinda Young won the pole vault for Yerington.
