Lucile Marion Aldrich, a Carson City resident for two years, died Nov. 21, 2003 at home in Carson City. She was 85.

Born Oct. 2, 1918 in San Francisco to Ralph T. and Ruth Goldsmith, she graduated from Balboa High School in San Francisco and St. Mary's College in Lafayette, Calif.

She married Edward E. Aldrich on Nov. 17, 1939.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973 and brother, Oliver Goldsmith in 1991.

Mrs. Aldrich was part owner with her husband of the Concord Transcript newspaper in Concord, Calif., where they lived from 1950 to 1961, and the Central County News in Aptos, Calif. in the 1960s.

She was a real estate agent and broker in Aptos, Calif., where she lived for 40 years before coming to Carson City.

She was known as the unofficial mayor of Aptos and started its July Fourth parade in 1961. Mrs. Aldrich received commendations from the California Assembly in 1988 and Senate in 1985-88. She was president of the Aptos Chamber of Commerce from 1978-79. In 2000, the Santa Cruz Sentinel named her one of the century's 25 most influential people of Santa Cruz County.

As advertising director for the Concord Transcript, she won a national award for an ad campaign in 1959. She had a radio program in Concord and Santa Cruz, a television program called "Dejà Vu" for seniors in Santa Cruz, and wrote a column, "Seabreezes," in which she wrote about her worldwide travels. She wrote the theme song for the 1939 World's Fair in San Francisco, "The Old Mission Trail," and appeared in many amateur theatricals in Concord and Santa Cruz.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Joyce and Graham Hollister Jr. of Genoa and Judy and Dr. Joseph Finnegan of Washoe Valley; son and daughter-in-law, Jay Aldrich and Tina Fixman of Minden; grandchildren Jennifer Hollister of Dayton, Heather Mayes of Lafayette, Jazz Aldrich of Reno, Abby Aldrich of Minden and Jenny and Molly Finnegan of Washoe Valley; and great grand children Anginette and Andrew Mayes of Lafayette.

The Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Aldrich will be cremated. Services will be announced at a later date.
