Carson volleyball sweeps past Wooster

Wooster was able to stay with the Carson High volleyball team in each game for a while. But in the end, the Senators just had too much firepower.

Carson stayed unbeaten in Sierra League play with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 win over Wooster on Tuesday at home.

The improved the passing, had a strong night serving and continued to receive improved play from middle blockers Nicole Scott and Catherine Brekken.

Lindsey Kern, Jenna Mechum and Colleen Etcheverria lead the passing effort.

"We played OK," Carson coach Daryl James said. "We passed the ball actually pretty well. I think we handled the ball pretty well.

"I think we're going in the right direction. We just need to keep it up."

The Senators had a balanced attack as Adrienne Fletcher had 15 kills, Kaitlin Brush had 11 kills, Brekken had 11 kills and Scott added seven kills.

Tabitha Adams, who had 47 assists, combined with Scott and Brekken for 15 quick hits for kills.

"The middle is doing a good job," James said. "They did a real good job. It made our defense around them a lot better."

Carson gradually took control of game one behind the hitting of Brush and Adrienne Fletcher and the serving of Erin Amodei, who finished with six aces. Fletcher had five kills while Brush added three kills in game one.

The Senators took an 18-11 lead when Erin Amodei served for six straight points, including four straight aces. Adams served for two straight aces to make it 21-13. Scott's block made it 24-14 and Brush served for an ace on game point.

Mechum's ace tied the score 5-5 in game two, which stayed even, with Wooster eventually leading 14-13. That's when Brush had a kill and served for two aces to give the Senators a 16-14 lead. Fletcher, Brush and Brekken all had kills to give Carson a 24-17 lead and Brekken followed with a quick hit on game point.

Kern's ace gave Carson a 7-6 lead in game three. Brush then followed with four kills during a stretch that gave the Senators a 16-11 lead. Fletcher took command at the end, with four kills, including one on match point.

DAYTON 3, TRUCKEE 0

The Dayton volleyball team improved to 7-0, 6-0 in the Northern 3A with a 25-12, 25-22, 25-8 win.

Michelle Bowman had nine assists, one kill and one dig, Carey Kytle had four kills and seven blocks, Amanda Ring served for two points and had two kills and two digs, Sarah Connett served for 12 points and an ace and had one kill, eight assists and five digs, April Thompson had five kills and two digs, Danielle Rodriguez served for 11 points and three aces and had seven digs, Amanda Sbragia had eight kills and several blocks, Nicole Greer served for two points and an ace and had three kills and five digs, Bridgette Galles served for 10 points and three aces and had two kills, six assists and digs, Tricia Moli had three kills, one blocks and one dig, Macy Hamilton had one kill, one block, one assist and one dig and Natalie Malekos served for nine points and four digs.

Dayton lost the junior varsity match while the freshmen won. The Dust Devils will host North Tahoe on Thursday.
