A Carson City man was killed in a single-vehicle traffic accident in Douglas County.
The Nevada Highway Patrol said Charles Jeffress Jr., 50, died when his vehicle drifted off Lake Topaz Road on Sunday near the Topaz Lake campground, went down an embankment, and struck several large boulders.
Troopers said it appears Jeffress was attempting to turn around by backing onto a dirt shoulder and did not see a severe dropoff.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Douglas County police report, a woman walking about 8:40 a.m. saw the vehicle and reported it to her husband, a firefighter with the East Fork Fire District.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the 4 a.m. accident, according to Sgt. Mark S. Clark of the Nevada Highway Patrol.
An investigation continues into the accident.
