Nevada Appeal Advertising Manager Gail Powell-Acosta has been named regional advertising director for Tahoe-Carson Area Newspapers, the Appeal's parent company.
Powell-Acosta will be responsible for all retail and classified revenues for the news group, including the group Web sites. She has spent nearly 10 years in the newspaper business, working for just under five years for Gannett and five years at the Nevada Appeal. Prior to working in newspapers, she was in retail management.
She will also serve as an adviser and consultant to the individual newspapers' advertising directors and advertising managers.
The Appeal's new director of commercial printing and mail division, Joanna Reeves, has 25 years' experience in the printing industry. She owned an advertising agency/print brokerage in California.
"I published two shoppers and a bridal magazine, as well as producing weekly grocery tabloids for five grocery stores," she said. "I have worked for a number of different newspapers, including spending 12 years with Gannett in Central California and Reno." She moved to Carson City seven years ago. She went to work for T-CAN in 2000 as advertising manager for the Record-Courier until July 2002, when she became advertising manager for the Tahoe Daily Tribune.
Keith Tanoos has been named regional circulation director for Tahoe-Carson Area Newspapers. He has an extensive background in regional circulation, most recently from one of Community Newspapers Holding Co.'s region of newspapers in Texas.
He will focus on circulation of the Appeal and be an adviser and consultant for circulation managers throughout the news group.
As the new regional director of production/operations for the news group, Girish Pandit brings years of experience from Dow Jones Co. Ad production, pre-press, press room, distribution center and information technology will report to Girish.
Appeal retail sales manager Danny Campos has been promoted to regional retail advertising manager. He will be in charge of Reno and major account sales for the news groups. Campos has worked at the Appeal for five years, coming from the Daily Independent in Ridgecrest, Calif.
New Media Directions Manager Mark Maynard was born in Truckee and grew up in Incline Village. He started working for the newspaper group in 2000 as content editor for Reno.com. He has been managing editor for Reno.com and Tahoe.com and filled in as managing editor of the Sierra Sun.
Before joining the news group, he was a producer, writer and marketing manager for LookSmart and Electronic Arts. He will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Reno.com and Tahoe.com and the Web sites for the six news groups newspapers.
North Dakota native Kent Hummel has been named market development director for the news group. He is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with bachelor's and master's degrees in communications studies.
He consulted with publishing and graphic design firms for 10 years in Illinois before moving to Wisconsin to be marketing director for the Gannett Wisconsin Newspaper group. In 1999, he was promoted to regional marketing director.
Hummel's duties in Carson City include establishing a marketing department for the news group with a focus on strategic circulation and business growth.
Appeal employee Laurie Hancock has been named regional classified advertising manager. She came to work at the Appeal in 1996 as a customer service representative for classified. Her tenure at the Appeal included being single-copy manager in circulation. She was promoted to assistant circulation manager in 1999, and in 2002, she was named classified call center manager.
