The U.S. Forest Service is asking for business proposals for Zephyr Shoals - 81 acres of public property formerly known as the Dreyfus estate north of Zephyr Cove.
A large home on the property, which has about three-quarters of a mile of shoreline, may be demolished, depending on what is proposed.
Proposals must ensure that beaches and facilities remain open to the public; the natural character of the area is maintained; the business is self-sustaining while enhancing recreational opportunities; access for the public is safe; public transit exists at the site; and that the business must compensate for any impacts it has on the environment.
Detailed information about the property is available to people or groups serious about creating a 20-year business plan for Zephyr Shoals.
To obtain a copy of a Forest Service report about the property, send a written request to Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, Attn: Zephyr Shoals Prospectus, 35 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe, CA, 96150. Or e-mail:
mailroom_r5_lake_tahoe_basin@fs.fed.u. Put "Zephyr Shoals" in the subject line. A copy of the report can also be picked up at the supervisor's office, off Al Tahoe Boulevard at 35 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe.
