YERINGTON - A Fallon woman will be tried on charges of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a Silver Springs girl killed in March.

Lauri Sikora, 25, pleaded not guilty to the charge before Lyon County District Judge Archie Blake, during her arraignment on the charge Monday.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Mikayla Pinell, 13 months old, was restrained in the back seat of a 1988 Honda Civic driven by her pregnant mother Amanda Pinell, 27.

Troopers said Pinell had stopped to make a left turn and was rear-ended by a Dodge pickup truck driven by Lauri Sikora, 25, of Fallon.

Mikayla died as a result of the accident. Pinell and her passenger Susan Hurbert, 40, of Fernley were taken to the hospital, as was Sikora and her passenger.

Deputy District Attorney Kristin Curbery said Hurbert sustained serious injuries in the accident.
