The Carson Junior Midget football team continued its strong opening to the season Friday by defeating the Reno Raiders 34 - 6.
Carson was coming off last week's opening game where it defeated the Sparks Cardinals 39-0.
The Senators were led against Reno by Matt Rutledge who rushed for 170 yards and scored four touchdowns. Pat Riggs was 6-for-13 and one touchdown and rushed for 45 yards. Recievers Spud Jacobson caught three passes, one for a touchdown, and Todd Banko caught two passes for 47 yards.
The defense was dominant all night. After the Raiders scored on their first play from scrimmage, the defense stiffened and only allowed four first downs the rest of the night. Blake Davdson led the defense with three sacks. Nate Reno and Mitch Hammond each recovered fumbles and Tucker Ford intercepted a pass. Steve Carranza, James Simmons, Anthony Olivas and nose tackle Nick Peternell controlled the line of scrimmage all night. Chad Plattsmier, Casey Lillard, Tyler Daykin, Stephen Myers, Drew Heller, Tyson Pontes, Sam Osheroff, Matt Robinson and Ben Berg all contributed to the defensive effort.
The Junior Midgets take on the Sparks Steelers at 8 p.m. Friday at Governor's Field.
The Carson Junior PeeWee Blue defeated the Fallon Green Wave 20-0 on Friday with a dominating defensive performance that held Fallon to no first downs and negative yards. The Senators offense continues to improve its veer offense and scored three times.
The Senators offense moved the ball successfully all night. After two stalled drives deep in Fallon terrority, the offense scored on a bootleg by Ricky McDonald with blocking from by Shane Ahrens, Nick Garcia, Keegan Aizzi, John Borges, Devin Harrill and Cody Metcalf.
Their second score came on a long run by Dylan Sawyers and blocking from Nolan Truesdell, Zach Raat, Jim Wildenradt, Zach White, Donnie Kellie and Clint Page. The Senators were unable to convert the extra point making the score 13-0 at halftime. The Senators added one more score in the fourth quarter on a run by McDonald with the extra point coming on a pass by McDonald to Colton Banta. Sam Hutchinson also contributed with a big gain off a reverse.
The Senators Defense dominated the entire game. Austin Pacheco blocked a punt and almost had two more while Josh Peacock had an outstanding game playing linebacker and on the defensive line. Gabe Stone also made several key stops from his defensive end position. The defensive line led by Casey Foster with Lue Vang, Rod Calhoun, Jeremy Walkama, Kevin Sperski, Austin Brown, and Javier Torres pushed the Fallon offensive line back the entire game. Tanner Laird, Shea Bondi, Willie McDonald, Cody Hammond, Chris Johnson, along with Pat Craugh and Michael Lowes all turned in impressive performances as well.
The Senators (1-1) travel to Sparks this week to take on the Reno Panthers.
