A five-acre fire in Voltaire Canyon, just southwest of Carson City, sent a plume of smoke towering over the Carson Range this evening.
The fire was first reported at 4:12 p.m., according to a spokeswoman at Minden Dispatch.
It is two miles from the nearest structure and a canyon over from Highway 50.
Firefighters from Carson City, East Fork Fire District, Nevada Division of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service responded to the blaze which is on land managed by the Forest Service.
Two helicopters, a heavy air tanker, seven engines, two water tenders and two fire crews were among the resources used to fight the blaze located in light sagebrush.
A light wind out of the west was blowing the fire up the side of the canyon as the tanker dropped borate onto the fire.
