First Baptist Church of Carson City will kick off a nationwide campaign Sunday called "40 Days of Purpose."

The Rev. Dan Eddington of First Baptist Church said the campaign involves 37,000 churches of all denominations.

"It is a campaign for people to help discover their purpose and answer the question, 'What on earth are we here for?'"

The 40-day emphasis is accompanied by the book "A Purpose-Driven Life" by Rick Warren.

"We ask our congregation to be involved with small groups, worship and perform daily readings," Eddington said.

Worship services at First Baptist Church are at 7 p.m. Fridays and 10:45 a.m. Sundays.

The church will offer a Missions Ministry Fair May 23 to provide information and encourage mission work or serve in the ministries of the church.

There will be a free concert at 5 p.m. each Sunday in June. Scheduled to perform are the Carson City Symphony on June 6; Second Baptist Church of Reno June 13; Southern Gospel group Dayspring June 20; and the Chorus of the Comstock June 27.
