Evelyn Thurlo, 85, a Reno resident for the past seven years and former Gardnerville resident for 13 years, died April 16, 2004, in Reno of heart failure. She was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Columbia, Mo., to Rucker and Effie Bryson Toalson.
She received an associate of arts degree from Christian College and a bachelor of arts degree from Columbia University.
Mrs. Thurlo was an elementary school teacher. During World War II, she worked as a railroad conductor. She was a member of National Phi Mu Sorority, American Association of University Women and past president of Charter Oak Teachers' Union. She was a member of First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, in 1994.
Among her survivors are her children Jean Salin and Lynn Thurlo, both of Reno, and Gail Silverman and Jack Thurlo, both of California.
Inurnment will be at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
